Here is some merino/cashmere (80/20) fiber dyed by Spirit Trail Fiberworks that I started spinning this weekend. It is very soft and I am able to spin it quite fine on my Wyatt Norwegian set at the 1:12 ratio. I have heard many times in spinning classes that the finer the staple the finer you can spin the roving. I am amazed at how thin I am able to spin this roving. I have 4 oz of it and I might be able to make a Flower Basket shawl. If I don't have enough yardage for a shawl, then I will have enough for the Hydrangea scarf. The colors are very intense and I can't wait to see it plied. I'm about 2/3 of the way through my first half (2 oz) of roving on my first bobbin. Once I complete the second bobbin, I plan to let the bobbins sit at least overnight as that will help make the plying more manageable. I usually ply with my Lendrum, however, I will give my Gem a try with the Woolee Winder. The ratios on the Lendrum are 5, 7, & 9 for the plying head. With my Gem, I can go up to a ratio of 12.75 and using the Woolee Winder will make it go much faster. I know I will find this very helpful as I tend to get bored with plying after too long. NOTE: Patrick asked about the wpi, and according to my Spinner's Control Card (as I am too busy/lazy to use my wpi stick), the singles are 32 to 36 wpi and the plied (unwashed) yarn is 18 wpi which is about Koigu weight.
Your spinning is lovely!!! Very nice and thin.

Looks great. Do you have an estimate on the wpi?

What a beautiful yarn! And wouldn't you know that I just started the FBS in my own handspun?

Beautiful spinning. I really should get back into using my WPI gauge. I'm just too busy spinning to pay much attention...

Wow, sounds like you have quite a collection of wheels. I have wanted to try to spin but there are no resources near here that I know of.
