I have completed my first Rosebuds sock in Handmaiden Casbah in the Berry colorway from Ann's sock club. It took a few tries to adjust the number of sts. I started with 72 sts then went down to 68 sts and ended up at 70 sts on my 2.5 mm Addi Lace 40" circular needles. I like the tips on these needles a lot, however, they make working the Norwegian Purl a bit more challenging. Ann cleverly designed this sock with a 5 row repeat that is easily memorized. After 12 rounds of ribbing, I worked 4 repeats of the Rosebuds for 60 rounds. I started working the 36 heel sts in stockinette stitch (on 2.00 mm Addi Turbo needles) keeping the instep sts in the Rosebuds pattern for the next 15 rounds. I worked wrapped short row heel over 34 sts down to 14 sts. I switched back to the 2.5 mm Addi Lace needle for the rest of the sock, working 70 rounds to the toe decreases. I started with 36 sts on the top of the toe and after 1 plain round of stockinette on size 2.00 Addi Turbo needles, I decreased on just the top of the foot and then continued with my usual decreases for the remainder of the toe. This yarn in incredibly soft and makes wonderful socks.
Beautiful sock. I love the color.
This is the first time I have heard about the Norwegian Purl. From the photos, it looks like it could stretch out the stitch being purled. Do you have to do anything special to keep this from happening? Should it only be done with elastic fibers?
