Here are Joshua and Justin's Fair Isle hats that I knitted for them to match their snowman mittens. I used Knit Picks Swish Worsted and size 6 Addi Turbo circular needles (16" for most of the hat and 32" to do the Magic Loop at the crown). This pattern is from Charlene Schurch's Hats On! book and I made the medium size for each of them. My gauge is about 6 sts and 7 rows to the inch, very close to the pattern gauge of 6 sts and 7.25 rows to the inch. I have found with this book that my gauge matches her gauge so I just use the needle size that she recommends. The jog is in the center of the middle "X" but hidden as I used the technique from Vogue Knitting magazine to minimize it by changing the beginning of each round. The original crown was a cone shape with a braided tassel attached. I converted it to my standard crown and did my best to maintain the snowflake pattern. I hope these hats help to keep Justin and Joshua warm now that the colder weather has arrived.
